Course: CISH-6960H01 Open Source Software

Purpose:

Develop written and oral communication skills. Develop research skills. Learn something interesting about a particular aspect of open source software.

Task:

Research an open source topic of interest. Paper a technical paper and oral summary. Topic must be approved by instructor; email me.

Note this is primarily intended to be a review, analysis and summary of existing literature. Original research is not required (but it is not prohibited if you're so inclined).

Format:

You must submit by 11:59 pm on August 8th:

Your completed paper in Microsoft Word, RTF, or PDF format. (See me if these don't work for you.) Student submissions will be combined and provided electronically to the rest of the class.

Any electronic notes for your oral summary. These should be in Powerpoint or PDF format.

You must hand in on August 11th

Your completed paper in hardcopy format

Reminder
The expectation is every student will do their own work. Discussion, exchange of ideas, assistance in debugging or illustrating concepts with sample code is okay and encouraged, but the expectation is each student will submit assignments they have typed, compiled, and testing themselves. This is the default condition at Rensselaer unless otherwise specified by the instructor.
