Develop written and oral communication skills. Develop research skills. Learn something interesting about a particular aspect of open source software.

Research an open source topic of interest. Paper a technical paper and oral summary. Topic must be approved by instructor; email me.

Note this is primarily intended to be a review, analysis and summary of existing literature. Original research is not required (but it is not prohibited if you're so inclined).

  Non text items, such as illustrations, are not counted towards the page total

• Single spaced
• 12 point font
• Times New Roman or equivalent serif font
• 8 1/2" x 11" paper
• 1" margins
• Suggested style guide: IEEE Computer Society Style Guide
• References should be end notes. List in order used in paper.
• Reference style guide: CS Style Guide: References

You must submit by 11:59 pm on August 8th:

Your completed paper in Microsoft Word, RTF, or PDF format. (See me if these don't work for you.) Student submissions will be combined and provided electronically to the rest of the class.

Any electronic notes for your oral summary. These should be in Powerpoint or PDF format.

You must hand in on August 11th

Your completed paper in hardcopy format

You will be graded on:

• Technical content
• Organization
• Spelling.
• Grammar.
• Use of references.
